It covers 954 ha of varied habitat, including sand-dunes, coastal fynbos (heath) and the Heuningnes River estuary. There is a rich birdlife and the black-backed gull, white breasted cormorant and Caspian and Damara terns breed in the reserve. Mammals such as the Cape grysbok, steenbok, common duiker, Cape clawless otter and small grey mongoose may be seen. Location: South-western part of the province; south of Bredasdorp. Access: From Bredasdorp follow the R316 towards Waenhuiskrans (Arniston); after 11 km turn right onto a gravel road and continue for 14 km, through Prinskraal, to the entrance gate. Permits are available at the office. Accommodation: None. Other facilities: Walking is permitted; fishing (permits are required); seabird-watching. Open: Throughout the year.
